Day Twenty Two
Discreet - Wise
Proverbs 31:26...She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction]...
Exodus 20:7...Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain (KJV).
You shall not use or repeat the name of the Lord your God in vain [that is, lightly or frivolously, in false affirmations or profanely; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain (Amplified).
Vain - empty, worthless, trivial, unsatisfying, fruitless, ineffectual, idle, unreal, voice, shadowy, delusive, unimportant, unproductive, proud, conceited, inflated, ostentations, false, deceitful.
James 3:3-10...If we set bits in the horses' mouths to make them obey us, we can turn their whole bodies about.
Likewise, look at ships; though they are so great and are driven by rough winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the impulse of the helmsman determines.
Even so the tongue is a little member, and it can boast of great things. See how much wood or how great a forest a tiny spark can set ablaze!
And the tongue is a fire. [The tongue is a] world of wickedness set among our members, contaminating and depraving the whole body and setting on fire the wheel of birth (the cycle of man's nature), being itself being ignited by hell (Gehenna).
For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea animal, can be tamed and has been tamed by human genius (nature).
But the human tongue can be tamed by no man. It is a restless (undisciplined, irreconcilable) evil, full of deadly poison.
With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse men who were made in God's likeness!
Out of the same mouth comes forth blessing and cursing. These things, my brethren, ought not to be so.
Proverbs 30:5-6...Every word of God is tried and purified; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him.
Add not to His words, lest He reprove you, and you be found a liar.
Psalm 17:3b...I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
Psalm 49:3...My mouth shall speak wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be understanding.
Proverbs 10:11,13,14,19,20a,21,31,32...The mouth of the [uncompromisingly] righteous man is a well of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
On the lips of him who has discernment skillful and godly Wisdom is found, but discipline and the rod are for the back of him who is without sense and understanding.
Wise men store up knowledge [in the mind and heart], but the mouth of the foolish is a present destruction.
In a multitude of words transgression is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is prudent.
The tongues of those who are upright and in right standing with God are as choice silver...
The lips of the [uncompromisingly] righteous feed and guide many, but fools die for want of understanding and heart.
The mouths of the righteous (those harmonious with God) bring forth skillful and godly Wisdom, but the perverse tongue shall be cut down [like a barren and rotten tree].
The lips of the [uncompromisingly] righteous know [and therefore speak only] what is obstinately willful and contrary.
Ecclesiastes 5:6a...Do not allow your mouth to cause your body to sin...
Matthew 12:34b-37...For out of the fullness (the overflow, the superabundance) of the heart the mouth speaks.
The good man from his inner good treasure flings forth good things, and the evil man out of his inner evil storehouse flings forth evil things.
But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle (inoperative, non working) word they speak.
For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.
James 1:26...If anyone thinks himself to be religious (piously observant of the external duties of his faith) and does not bridle his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person's religious service is worthless (futile, barren).
A hearts' cry...Father, may we understand the importance, yea, the very essential importance of speaking according to the leading of the Spirit. Set a guard, O Lord, before my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips...Psalm 141:3.
